Our verdict
Surfshark covers an unlimited number of devices for a low price, which makes it a good choice for a whole household. It is fast for downloads and works well for travel, but streaming results were inconsistent across independent tests in 2026.
Speed
In 2026 tests Surfshark lost only about 8% of download speed, but upload speed dropped by about half in one test. With WireGuard it passed 1,000 Mbps on very fast connections.
Streaming
Results were mixed. Netflix worked in the US, Canada and Japan but failed in the UK and Australia in 2026 tests, and Disney+ and Prime Video failed in some regions. BBC iPlayer worked. Earlier tests from 2025 had better results.
Privacy and security
Surfshark is based in the Netherlands and has been part of Nord Security, the company behind NordVPN, since 2022. Its no-logs policy was audited in 2022 and again in 2025, and its infrastructure was audited in early 2026. All servers run on RAM only. The apps are not open source, and no breaches have been reported.
Travel
Surfshark has servers in 100 countries and a NoBorders mode for networks that block VPNs. Independent testers ranked it among the best VPNs for China.
Torrenting
P2P is allowed on all servers. Port forwarding is not available, and in one stress test the Windows kill switch needed a restart to reconnect.
Price and plans
Surfshark has one of the lowest first-term prices on the two-year plan, but the renewal price is much higher. Every plan covers unlimited devices and comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
