The list is ordered by Trustpilot rating, as published on Trustpilot and last checked 2 November 2026. Trustpilot ratings reflect user opinions; our scores out of 10 are based on independent tests.

Quick picks

For travellers

NordVPN

Our top travel score: among the fastest in independent speed tests, with obfuscated servers that testers got working in China.

For big households

Surfshark

Unlimited devices on one plan, so the whole household is covered for one low price.

Most private

Mullvad

No email needed to sign up, one flat monthly price, and audited no-logs servers.

Free to start

Proton VPN

The only free plan we recommend: no data cap and no ads, from a Swiss privacy company.

Top rated by users

ExpressVPN

The highest Trustpilot rating of the VPNs we compare, with servers in more than 100 countries and automatic obfuscation.

For downloading

Private Internet Access

Port forwarding and P2P on every server, open-source apps, and a no-logs policy that has held up in court.

How we score

Every score is based on independent tests.

We don't run our own test lab. Each score combines recent independent tests from 2025 and 2026 by testers and auditors, and published no-logs audits. We score speed kept, streaming, privacy, travel, torrenting and value. Affiliate deals never change a score, and a VPN can't pay to be listed.
