Our verdict
ExpressVPN has the highest Trustpilot rating of the VPNs we compare (4.4). It has a strong privacy record, automatic obfuscation and a lower renewal price than many rivals. Streaming was patchier in 2026 tests than in earlier years, which keeps its overall score at 8.5.
Speed
With its Lightway Turbo protocol, ExpressVPN passed 1,100 Mbps on very fast connections in 2026 tests, and one test measured a download speed loss of only about 8%. Other tests on the standard Lightway protocol showed larger drops.
Streaming
Netflix worked in the US, UK and Canada but not in Australia or Japan. Disney+ worked in the US, UK and Canada. Amazon Prime Video failed in the US but worked in the UK, Australia, Canada and Japan. BBC iPlayer worked.
Privacy and security
ExpressVPN is based in the British Virgin Islands and has been owned by Kape Technologies since 2021. Its no-logs policy has been audited three times by a major accounting firm, most recently in 2025, and all servers run on RAM only. In 2017, authorities seized one of its servers in Turkey and found no user logs. A DNS leak in the Windows split-tunnelling feature was found in 2024 and fixed within days.
Travel
ExpressVPN has servers in more than 100 countries (113 according to ExpressVPN) and turns on obfuscation automatically. In independent tests it generally worked in China, though connections could be unstable.
Torrenting
P2P is allowed on all servers, and the kill switch is available on all major platforms. Port forwarding is not available.
Price and plans
Basic starts at $2.99 a month on the two-year plan, which includes four extra months, and then renews at $99.95 a year. Advanced and Pro add a password manager, identity protection and, on Pro, a dedicated IP. Plans cover 10 to 14 devices and come with a 30-day money-back guarantee.
